This timeline shows an overall summary of the dates, events and important milestones that made Unicars into the market-leading company it is today.
Timeline
1946
P.M. Tseriotis Limited, the holding company of Unicars, secures the dealership rights of Jaguar cars in Cyprus.
1953
Panayiotis Tseriotis, the founding father of the company, displays amazing foresight and recognises the potential of the then little-known Volkswagen Beetle. In a move that would shape the company’s future, he secures the dealership rights of Volkswagen in Cyprus.
1950’s
A decade of growth for the company; creating a car-sales network throughout Cyprus and providing workshop services in co-operation with the A. Chillides Company.
1960’s
A decade of development; the company capitalises on the success of the Beetle and adds a range of passenger and commercial vehicles, which prove to be very popular.
1974
This year sees the launch of the Volkswagen Golf; a car that became a fashion icon and almost legendary around the world. The political unrest following the Turkish military invasion means the loss of the company’s branches in the Occupied Areas and a large number of brand-new vehicles stored in the port of Famagusta.
1976
The birth of Unicars: The merge of the automotive section of P.M. Tseriotis Limited and Motavia Limited, the importer of Audi cars, sees the creation of Unicars. The new company has the exclusive importation and dealership rights for both Volkswagen and Audi vehicles.
1978
P.M. Tseriotis buys out the share of Motovia and Unicars becomes a one-hundred percent subsidiary of P.M. Tseriotis Limited. Acting on an initiative from Unicars, the Volkswagen factory produces the light commercial Golf Van, thereby introducing a new and very popular category of commercial vehicle. The Golf Van is a great success in Cyprus and other international markets. The commercial version of the Golf proves to be the ‘brand image car’ of Unicars for many years.
1980
With a market showing a gradual upward trend, Unicars steadily increases its presence and activities in the Cypriot market.
1990
The Volkswagen Group establishes itself as a major power in the global automotive industry. The already highly-successful Golf range goes from strength to strength and other models, including Polo and Passat, are improved. Both these vehicles achieve top sales figures in their respective market sectors.
1990
Unicars becomes the official importer of SEAT cars; the Spanish manufacturer that is already part of the Volkswagen Group. Very soon, the various SEAT vehicles achieve very high sales figures, especially in the light commercial sector with the Ibiza Van. The Ibiza Van along with the Golf Van, prove to be strong and complementary members of the Unicars range.
1992
A new SEAT showroom opens in Nicosia.
1993
Spacious new premises are set up in Limassol, which include a showroom for Volkswagen and Audi and new workshop facilities. The head office and showrooms in Nicosia are extended and improved. The showroom area is doubled in size and fully meets the corporate-image guidelines of the Volkswagen Group. A new, privately-owned, bonded warehouse commences operation in the Nicosia suburb of Latsia.
1994
Audi AG becomes administratively autonomous and starts a major campaign to upgrade its vehicles and thereby reposition the brand internationally. The luxury vehicle category is extremely competitive and Unicars manages to increase the local market share, reaching comparable market-share sizes of large European countries.
1996
New showrooms are opened in Limassol for Audi and SEAT.
1997
Unicars continues to make investments and improves the main workshop facility and spare parts warehouse in Nicosia. A brand-new showroom opens in Larnaca.
1998
Unicars becomes the official importer of ŠKODA AUTO, the Czech manufacturer with a long and impressive history in the automotive industry. ŠKODA has been a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group since 1991. Furthermore, Unicars extends its reach to the western, coastal town of Paphos with the opening of a Volkswagen showroom.
1998 & 1999
For two consecutive years, Unicars takes Volkswagen to first place for sales of passenger cars in Cyprus.
2001
Unicars increases its activities in the automotive industry and enters the car rental business by acquiring a sizable share holding of UNIWHEELS Car Rentals Limited; the local franchisee of SIXT Rent a Car.
2002
The company opens a modern central showroom in Nicosia, thereby creating showrooms for the SEAT and Audi brands. Furthermore, a new Nicosia showroom for ŠKODA commences operation in Nicosia
2003
In preparation for the accession of Cyprus to the European Union the following year, Unicars initiates a comprehensive adjustment and reorganisation plan.
2004
A renovation and upgrade of facilities of the Volkswagen showroom in Nicosia is completed in accordance with the corporate requirements and guidelines of the brand. ŠKODA moves to a new, larger showroom in the capital to satisfy the increasing requirements of the brand. Spacious and modern showroom premises are opened in Larnaca for all brands. Furthermore, a new workshop also opens in Larnaca, giving customers of the coastal town full coverage of their needs.
2005
A brand-new showroom opens in Limassol. The new-build construction was carried out to full Volkswagen design principles and truly reflects the aims and values of the brand.
2006
Unicars receives certification of ISO 9001:2003 quality standard as well as approval from the Quality Management System of Volkswagen Group.
Unicars becomes the Authorised Service agent for Lamborghini cars in Cyprus. At the same time the company implements a new software system for the management of business resources, designed specifically for the needs of the motor trade. The new software improves levels of customer service and upgrades the operation and provision of management information.
2007
The company’s new central premises in Nicosia commence operation. The design brief was for functionality and enhanced customer service. The workshop and paint shop, spare parts warehouse, and administrative offices are housed in the impressive 5,000 square metre premises.
2011
A second body and paint shop is opened to provide improved customer service.
2012
Unicars becomes a shareholder and undertakes the management of MAN Sales and Services (Cyprus) Limited, the official representative of MAN Truck & Bus AG.
2012
The 5th of November sees the inauguration of the new Audi Terminal in Nicosia. It is one of the one hundred such buildings throughout the world and it is the flagship showroom for Audi cars. The elegant, modern building houses a two thousand square metre showroom and a three thousand square metre workshop and spare parts facility. Also in the grounds of the Terminal is a large, security-guarded car park for customers’ vehicles. There is also the capacity to receive and deliver a car out of normal working hours. All these services, along with a modern car wash, make up only part of the experience on offer at the new Audi Terminal. The new Audi Terminal signals the beginning of a new era for Audi in Cyprus.
2013
The industry goes through the most difficult time in its history as a result of the financial crisis and the ‘haircut’ of bank deposits. Unicars is restructured and takes measures to handle the crisis, so as to offer financial solutions to its clients and safeguard its staff. It offers packages for new vehicles with financing solutions through Volkswagen Bank and also maintenance packages at the workshops.
2015
Unicars becomes the representative of Ducati motorcycles in Cyprus, offering high quality sales and servicing of the famous Italian marque. Uniwheels, the SIXT franchisee, becomes one of the largest car rental operations in Cyprus with a fleet of more than one thousand vehicles.
2017
New Volkswagen, SEAT and ŠKODA showrooms are opened in the Unicars facility in Annex 3 at the Mall of Cyprus, on the outskirts of Nicosia. Customers get a unique experience in the modern environment that follows factory guidelines.
2018
A modern and impressive showroom to house all brands is opened in Paralimni. Once again, Unicars strives to improve customer service in all areas.
2019
Unicars demonstrates its dedication to providing excellent, qualitative service; the company obtains ISO 900:2015 certification.
Unicars installed the first electric vehicle charger on the 13th of September at its premises in Nicosia, and started its journey to create the largest private network of electric chargers all over Cyprus.
2020
Unicars leads the way and creates the largest After Sales Service Hub in Cyprus, which became fully operational in October 2020 and serves the owners of Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda, Audi and Lamborghini vehicles at 144, Υiannou Kranidioti Avenue in Latsia. It is a centre that provides high standards of services to customers, where in a renewed environment, Unicars offers personalised, specialised and integrated services, that surpass the expectations of its customers. The state-of-the-art After Sales Hub caters to both combustion engine and electric cars for all services from Express Servicing, tyre maintenance and wheel alignment services, air-conditioning system maintenance and repair, general repairs, spare parts, to high-standard body and paint work, and houses an H.V. (High Voltage) Charging Station, and the first H.V. Battery Repair Centre in Cyprus.
Unicars expands its operations with the launch of Unicars Pro Solutions, which consists of VW Commercial, MAN Truck and Bus, NEOPLAN, MAN TopUsed and Schmitz Cargobull. The goal of Unicars Pro is to provide guidance and know-how for the right choice of Large Goods Vehicles, as well as high quality After-Sales services.
Unicars, as a pioneer in the automotive industry and in car electrification, aiming to create the ideal infrastructure for a smooth transition to the new era, places the first electric charger quite early at its showroom in Nicosia.
2021
Unicars is the first automotive company in Cyprus to be certified as a Great Place to Work®.

Unicars, inaugurated the new multi-brand showroom Unicars Sales Hub in Nicosia on the 6th of December, where customers are able to live a unique experience similar to the premium services we offer. The new showroom places a special emphasis on personalised customer service that combines digital and physical experience. At Unicars Sales Hub, visitors have the opportunity to explore the widest range of electric and conventional vehicles, that meet every customer’s needs and through the available digital platforms, visitors can configure their car based on their own preferences.
